Is there a plug in where instead of having to do crop and upload, that there is a plugin that takes a snapshot of the homepage provided with the url you give it?

No WordPress plugin I know of, but you can take your own screen capture of the sites and upload and display the images. Or, try http://Browsershots.com/ . Pick the browser you want it to use.
